6-Week Therapy Course
The Psychology Hub, Riccarton
This group is designed to support men who have recently discovered their ADHD in
adulthood and are navigating what that means for them now.
It may be especially meaningful if you:
Have built success by relying on perfectionism, people-pleasing, determination, or
overcompensation, but find those strategies are no longer sustainable.
Feel the weight of exhaustion, overwhelm, or burnout and are ready for a healthier
way forward.
Struggle with emotional dysregulation and/or rejection sensitivity that you want to explore in a safe space
This course goes beyond surface-level strategies and focuses on the secondary experiences of living undiagnosed with ADHD into adulthood
It acknowledges the compensatory strategies, perfectionism, overachievement,
people-pleasing, that may have helped you succeed, but often at the cost of your
wellbeing.
This course recognises the expectation that society places on men to be unemotional and strong, whilst also living with ADHD that does not always align with those expectations.
This is not a course of quick tips or “life hacks.” We know you’ve been managing the basics for years. Instead, we focus on the secondary experiences, burnout, relationships, shame, over-achievement to fulfil identity.
Connection to others with shared experiences is important. Holding space for naming experiences with individuals with similar experiences. In-person group work, and an optional online space for continued shared learning, reflections and resources.
Together, we’ll dive into the unique experiences of women with ADHD, with a focus on
understanding, reframing, and reshaping the challenges that often emerge after a later
diagnosis:
Making sense of a late diagnosis – unpacking the impact of discovering ADHD in
adulthood.
Compensation and socialisation – exploring how neurodivergent men are labelled and the expectations of society which impact on regulation, identity, connection and life balance.
Relationships and connection – recognising common patterns and learning how to
shift dynamics in healthier directions.
Emotional regulation and rejection sensitivity – building awareness and strategies for navigating intense feelings.
Burnout and overwhelm – identifying the cycles that affect high-achieving men and creating ways to prevent and recover from them.
